Overview:
The HBK-6S Hunchback is a modification of the venerable Hunchback to carry the new Lyran Heavy Gauss Rifle. The 'mech is an advanced design modification of imported Marik 5M models carried out at Defiance's Hesperus plant. The 'mech is something of a showpiece but it does provide some needed punch to light assault lances, especiall when paired with Hatchetmen or Axemen, or the HBK-5S model.
Capabilities:
This new model Hunchback is built around the Hammerfist Heavy Gauss Rifle. Unfortuneatly for the Mechwarrior piloting the mech, there are only 8 rounds for the weapon, so a mechwarrior must be cautious while in action. Not only that, but the balence and design issues inherent in the mech should not be lost on any warrior assigned to the design. Other weapons are a beavy of ER lasers, meant to back up the Heavy Gauss Rifle and give the Mechwarrior a choice if the Heavy Gauss is lost. Furthermore, the Heavy Gauss is enclosed in CASE so as to prevent a catastrophic capacitor failure from killing the mech. Unlike the HBK-5S and the Hatchetman, it's main flaw is a inability to jump, but considering a prejudice against lighter machines in general in the LAAF, the loss of the Jump Jets has inexplicably made the 'mech more popular.
Deployment
The new design has seen only action once, and only two examples have seen fighting during the recent fighting on Hesperus. The design acquitted itself well, killing eight Skye mechs between the two of them while part of the DSPF garrison. Neither mech, nor their warriors survived to see the end of the campaign, however.
