The Marrion was designed to be a guerilla fighter that could be used for long-term independant missions on worlds that had fallen into enemy hands.
The 'Mech is named for the ancient guerilla hero of the War of United States Independance in the early 18th Century. Winner of the RFP contest conducted by the AFFC in 3054. the Marrion, produced by Kallon Industries soon became a hit with Fedcom Units and proved itself to be every inch of it's promised
design
But, it's future is in doubt, with many of it's parts made on threatened worlds. It remains to be seen if the Marrion will prove as resiliant as it's namesake..
The Marrion was designed with one purpose, to conduct an independant guerilla war with ease of maintenance and an all beam armament. Other than that, she was to have the most powerful weapons available.
The Johnston High Speed ER PPC was chosen because it was the only model ERPPC available, though it's record of reliability made it a easy sell.
The Intek Medium Lasers were a surprise, not because of any question concerning reliability, but because there was a shortage of them after a run on Centurions in 3054-55.
The ChisComp Small Laser was added as an afterthought and is rarely used, as the heat shielding in it's cockpit mount is less than perfect and while it hasn't killed anyone, the heat levels in the cockpit can raise to dangerous levels after repeated firing.
The Engine is a new model XL from the production lines at Tikinov that converted to XL in 3053 to meet the demand for larger power plants
The Jump Jets are from Kallon's sister plant on Nanking and production was doubled to meet it and WVR demand.
The mech was expected to do well in battle and did not disappoint. During the Jade Falcon invasion of Coventry in 3058, the 10th Skye Rangers had 2 Marrions that had been the property of their mechwarriors who were late of
the 3rd Lyran Guard. Both had been exiled to the 10th due to their "Davion roots" and they took their Marrions with them, mainly because their commanders were worried about the availability of spare parts.
The two Marrions fought a classic guerilla campaign, wreaking all kinds of havoc on the Jade Falcon supply networks, but their efforts did little to change the outcome because they were not acting in concert with a larger plan. They managed to kill 3 light Falcon 'Mechs and an Elemental point between them and lost only armour damage and the odd actuator. Sadly, only one of the two 'Mechs survived to see the end of the campaign.
Leftenant Alexander Rosen and "Bugs"
Leftenant Rosen is one of the two Marrion pilots that was attached to the 10th Skye Rangers. He attended the War College of Buena, even with his being from New Rhodes and managed to earn his comission. He served with distinction with the 3rd Lyran Guards until they cleaned him and other Davion warriors out and assigned them to the Skye Rangers. "Bugs" went with him and they made quite the pair, with Leftenant Rosen having the strange habit of opening an ambush or raid by flooding the the commo channels with a tune called "Merry Melodies" and the quote of a 20thCentury cartoon character that simply states "What's up, Doc?" Furthermore, "Bugs" is painted with an odd grey-white scheme that seems to resemble a rabbit.Whatever may be the motivation for this odd behavior, Leftenant Rosen's actions on Coventry earned him the Federated Commonwealth Star and a slot with the 1st Davion Guards, which he holds to this day.
The Marrion is widely deployed throughout both halves of the Fedcom. The mech is less common by far in the Lyran Alliance, with many examples being exiled to the Skye Rangers as there is the worry of spare parts. [Though some suspect that the Lyran prejudice against light and Medium designs may have something to do with it]
